Bill of Materials (BoM) Engineer - PE1 - PE38

The BoM Engineer role is responsible for ensuring that local stock availability and repairs activity to support the customer contracts and ensure 100% availability of parts to eradicate any deferred defects and ensure revenue is generated in an accurate and timely manner.

The BoM Engineer is the Key point of contact for facilitating office in line with requirement (Develop, maintain and issue KPI’s to support the delivery performance in line with targets set).

Applications from suitably qualified ex-military personnel (Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Marines) will be particularly relevant for this position but other qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.

Major Accountabilities and Key Responsibilities

Operational:

  • Support regular Inventory report requirements, design and implement reports in line with business change and recommend actions based on findings and act upon them as agreed within process
  • Co-ordinate all stock implementation processes across ERP system to ensure all items in the BOM are accurate and available when required by the project
  • Actively co-ordinate the stock obsolescence process to ensure inventory is reviewed regularly to satisfy project requirements
  • Review and recommend adjustments to controlled policies and procedures within the Company’s BMS (Business Management System) work instructions to support all process pertinent to this role.
  • Creation and maintenance of accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for parts in development, generation of IAC part numbers and colour codes which with the Customer Part Numbers.
  • Upload and Maintenance of BOM to allow parts to be issued for RFQ and for sourcing accurately and robustly.
  • Leading the audit of Engineering BOMs vs actual build, noting significant errors that may result in shortages or cost discrepancies, communicating as appropriate and updating Engineering BOMs as required.
  • Maintaining BOMs to capture engineering changes, procurement or supplier changes, general updates, BoM maturity etc. distribute to the Team and help feed into plants MRP system by providing support as required.
  • Liaising with full team to effect changes into BOM once approved, issue robust minutes to support close out of actions.
  • Provide Engineering and project teams support on BOM line selection, collating chosen hardware on the BoM and liaise between Engineering, Manufacturing, Design and Purchase as appropriate.
  • Help to define and agree with Engineering and Design Team the drawing requirements to sup-port initial drawing release.
  • Raise and populate PLM ECNs with Engineering Direction to adequately convey any drawing revisions and / or updates to Team, answering any queries and overseeing to ensure completion in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with and provide support to all team members on a variety of subjects on which you will be key fact holder – where parts are made, what colours parts are available in, what raw materials are used and where, and other BOM related queries, providing support as required to various members of the team.

Skills & Experience

  • Educated in an Engineering discipline or with significant demonstrable relevant experience.
  • Computer literate with good understanding of MS Office and adaptable to bespoke packages
  • Possess good communication skills, oral and written, enabling them to interact with a wide variety of team members of various levels of the company hierarchy.
  • Self-motivated, with a willingness to learn.
  • Have the ability to take part in several projects simultaneously.
  • Have effective problem identification and solution skills.
  • Have proven analytical and organizational ability.
  • Experience of working or willingness to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Must work well within a team environment
