CNC Machinist - PE1 - PE38

As part of a skilled engineering craft team, you will create precision parts used in manufacturing and engineering. Have good knowledge and would have operated computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools. Manually controlled machines will also support the role and ideally, you would have experience within controls systems.

You will possess good practical skills and the have a good standard of computer skills, an understanding of engineering instructions/drawings and the ability to work to a high level of accuracy.

Experienced with many specifications of metals but you may also find yourself working with composite materials and plastics. Most of the parts being manufactured would be for use in the Oil and Gas industry but our very diverse capability would also serve many different market sectors and applications including other manufacturing industries.

Applications from suitably qualified ex-military personnel (Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Marines) will be particularly relevant for this position but other qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.

Main Purpose of Job

To carry out the operations of a Milling Machinist using a Mazatrol Control System or a Lathe Machinist using a FANUC Control System. 

Deliver customer solutions

• To carry out diversified machine set up and operating duties including machining of products/tools of various types of customer specifications where close tolerances are specified

• Work in accordance with Company/Customer specification, following standard procedures
• Change-over programmes, enter data into terminal from DNC link and change-over tooling machines to make job set ups
• Monitor machine action and where necessary make machine adjustments to obtain specified close tolerances required on all types of products composed of various metals
• Adjust speeds and feeds for different machine requirements.
• Refer problems to Team Leader, Cell Manager and Production Engineering as required
• Carry out hand finishing, deburring and filing, etc.
• Carry out inspections on completed work, using  various measuring instruments
• Maintain necessary record
• Move materials as necessary in order to perform duties for the role
• Detect and report improper operation, faulty equipment, defective materials and unusual conditions to the Team Leader or Cell Manager
• Maintain work area and equipment in clean, safe and orderly conditions
• Carry out other tasks to support the cell team as required

• Heavy machine manufacturing environment
• Experience of using a variety of CNC machines

Skills

• Able to work from  complex drawings, prints, work orders, CNC printouts, specifications, and verbal and written instructions
• Able to work on a variety of machines such as lathes, milling machines, tools, fixtures, slip gauges, surface blocks, dial indicators, visual aids, finishing tools, tool turrets and related tools and equipment
• Numerical skills

Qualifications

• Time served apprentice – engineering machining
• GCSE or equivalent Maths
