A specialist innovative company in the defence industry is looking for an Engineering Manager to oversee their design, project and manufacturing departments. The Engineering Manager will be qualified to ONC/HNC level in Mechanical Engineering and have completed an EITB approved apprenticeship. The Engineering Manager will be able to apply engineering principles in an analytical and methodical way. In addition, the Engineering Manager must be a UK national and will need to pass security vetting upon employment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and co-ordinate internal/external design staff and manage those staff on a day-to-day basis
  • Ensure professional standards are maintained for all designs
  • Maintain and develop company works engineering and design procedures
  • Thoroughly research new materials and processes
  • Organising previous engineering records and properly reporting new ones to produce the best methods
  • Oversee, effective testing of prototypes and record/analyse data from testing
  • Oversee design engineers’ modification of designs until the best version is reached
  • Translate client needs and create practical timelines to be met by the team
  • Resolving any problems with the team, plans and budget to ensure project flows smoothly
  • Identifying potential problems with the project, leading the team into developing solutions and ensuring that they are implemented
  • Ensure all legal and H&S requirements are met throughout the project
  • Ensuring the manufactured parts are correct and inspected before the prototype build begins
  • Taking part of the responsibility for a certain process or equipment and oversee the progress of the prototype build solving and technical issues
  • Developing and implementing a suitable testing program
  • Supporting and advising the development of products and modifications
  • Supervise the workshop manpower loading

 

Knowledge, skills and qualifications:

Essential:

  • Be qualified to ONC/HNC (minimum level 4) or C&G T4 or T6 in Mechanical Engineering, with a supporting EITB Approved Apprenticeship
  • Have a good understanding of Mechanical Engineering principles and the ability to apply them in an analytical and methodical approach
  • Have previous experience in Project Administration, Design and Manufacturing
  • Be computer literate, and proficient in Microsoft Project, Excel and Word
  • Be flexible and adaptable to a range of working methods and processes, be well organised, able to communicate technical and practical concepts, and is a team player

 

Desirable:

  • Have 5+ years in a Mechanical Design/Project/Manufacturing Environment
  • Knowledge of Solidworks and Solid Modelling

 

Salary: £45,000 - £50,000
