Environmental, Quality and Health & Safety Advisor - N1 - N22

Job Role

You will be mainly Environmental, ensuring that all sites conform to current legal requirements and developing relationships with the local interested parties. You will be required to advise site teams and senior management on best practice as well as carrying out enforcement of company rules. Your role will also include Health and Safety where required so some experience in a previous is anticipated.

Applications from suitably qualified ex-military personnel (Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, Army, Royal Marines) will be particularly relevant for this position but other qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Drive compliance and entrench continual improvement of environmental, health, safety, and quality standards.
  • Keep up to date with all new Environment best practice initiatives.
  • Help promote a positive Environmental culture throughout the business.
  • Conduct Site environment inspections and provide reports to Head of SHEQ.
  • Create bespoke Environmental Risk Assessments & Method Statements when required.
  • Develop initial site Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP).
  • Develop Initial Site Waste Management Plans and monitor completion by site teams.
  • Monitor documentation from our waste contractors such as Waste Transfer Notes and Licencing and act on any findings.
  • Ensure that all sites in the London inner and outer zones comply with Non-Road Mobile machinery (N-RMM) regulations and encouraging our contractors of the advantages to the environment through reduction of emissions.
  • Assist the Head of SHEQ in reviewing and passing comment on Sub-Contractor Health & Safety pre-qualification questionnaires (PQQ).
  • Assist in maintaining programmes and standards to meet the requirements of existing and future legislation and company standards.
  • Assist the Head of SHEQ in maintaining the company accreditations and ISO standards.
  • Assist the Head of SHEQ with detailed Site Audits.
  • Ensure checks and necessary Environmental inspections are carried out.
  • Carry out regular audits on waste contractors.
  • Provide advice to management and workforce, conduct Tool Box Talks where required.
  • Develop and maintain relations with Stakeholders and enforcement agencies where necessary.
  • Promoting and raising awareness, at all levels of an organisation, of the impact of emerging environmental issues, whether legislative or best practice, on corporate, ethical and social responsibility.

Essential Experience

  • IEMA Environment Certificate
  • Associate Member of IEMA is a minimum, PIEMA preferred.
  • CSCS card holder at PQP or AQP level.
  • Tech IOSH would be advantageous.
  • Experience of working within construction and the refurbishment environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good attention to detail, highly organised and ability to prioritise workload.
  • Ability to assist in leading and developing change.
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO9001 and OHSAS 18001 would be a benefit.
