Estimator - PE1 - PE38

£25,000 - £30,000 + benefits

A long-standing fabrication/construction company is looking for an Estimator to be responsible for producing detailed accurate quotes for the company’s packages to meet customers/business requirements. The Estimator will have the natural ability to build rapport with customers and have technical knowledge of construction materials and its uses. In addition, the Estimator will have previous experience as an Estimator, has good IT and excellent communication skills, and is able to travel to customer sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Price, design & build tenders from first principles by measurement and application of unit rates
  • Obtain Sub-Contractor quotations for key work packages, undertake a comprehensive review of quotations received and incorporate the most commercially suitable quotation within the tender
  • Understand the whole tender requirements under different forms of Design & Build Contracts, including JCT and NEC with the key aim of considering commercial risks and mitigation solutions
  • Present tender submissions to senior management for pre-submission appraisal, advising on commercial risk and commercial opportunity
  • Ensure tenders are submitted on time to a high quality and within profit ability guidelines
  • Liaise with and manage all other departments required to support tender submissions, to ensure all supporting information is provided in a timely manner
  • Be the point of contact to receive and respond to contract overspends in conjunction with the relevant project
  • Attend internal and external meetings to support the delivery of projects in line with budget and programme requirements
  • Supply commercial support and assistance in valuing variations
  • Undertake any other duties as requested in the support of the estimating department and function
  • Develop and simplify the existing Estimating process

 

Knowledge, skills and qualifications required:

  • Proven experience as an Estimator within the construction industry ideally using wooden or timber materials in projects
  • Have a good understanding of construction methods, materials and industry standards
  • Have good IT skills including Microsoft office
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Is able to travel occasionally for site visits
  • Meticulous in analysing project details and calculating costs

 

Salary: £25,000 to £30,000 DOE
