A Ferry Manager is needed to run a busy ferry service on the South Coast. The Ferry Manager will be responsible for both the engineering and operational phases of the service. A qualification or relevant experience in a Marine environment is essential. A Ferry Manager will need strong leadership, technical and budgetary skills in order to keep this busy crossing safe and operational for its customers around the clock.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring the safe reliable and efficient operation of the ferry service in line with health and safety and maritime legislation, and, conducting technical investigations and statutory reporting procedures
  • Effective and consistent management of operational and technical staff in line with organisational policies and procedures and local and national terms and conditions of employment
  • Monitor engineering and operational standards and investigate and implement operational and engineering improvements to increase ferry service effectiveness.
  • Maintain the vessels in class and meet all legislative and regulatory requirements
  • Preparation of tender documents and effective contract management
  • Management of delegated budgets
  • Recruit, train, manage and develop operational and engineering staff

 

Person Specification: Knowledge/Experience/Skills

 

Essential:

  • Qualification in Marine Engineering or other relevant experience
  • Health and Safety qualification
  • Experience of preparing technical and contractual specifications for engineering work
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Experience with budgets and financials

 

Desirable:

  • Previous ferry experience (operational and technical)
  • Post-grad in Management

 

Hours:

  • 37 hours per week
  • Possible shifts out of normal working hours
