Project Lead / LEV Technical Engineer - PL1 - PL35

£37,000 - £39,000 (DOE) + Bonus

A fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic Technical Engineer to assist in project managing operations at Plymouth Naval Base. Our client provides specialist support in health and safety processes around the areas of temporary LEV (Local Exhaust Ventilation) on-board ships, and various other activities. You will be responsible for ensuring all operational activities are carried out in a safe, timely and cost-effective manner; support the management of 3rd party suppliers; supervise LEV and other engineering installations on ships and across the Base. 

 You will also assist in installations (including temporary ventilation, heating, environmental monitoring etc) across South West England, 2) assist in the warehouse unit with general operations tasks, 3) support operations at Hinkley Point and 4) the occasional requirement to assist on larger projects (around the UK) which would involve (planned) short periods away from home. 

 Training and a company van will be provided.

Applications from suitably qualified ex-military personnel (Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Marines) will be particularly relevant for this position but other qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.

The Role: 

  • Assist on installations works across the full Company product range
  • Supervise a small team of engineers
  • Carry out site surveys on all types of ships (written).
  • Attend pre-install project meetings.
  • Customer liaison role
  • Maintain best practice health and safety across operations.
  • Reviewing RAMS.
  • Write up/manage LEV reports.
  • Generating reports for management as required.
  • Admin tasks as directed
  • Warehouse Duties, i.e. basic electrical/mechanical repairs/PAT testing etc

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 3 years technical engineering experience 
  • Navy or shipyard experience desirable
  • Submarine experience desirable
  • Good understanding of current health & safety regulations
  • Knowledge of Occupational Hygiene Hazards and Controls desirable 
  • Knowledge of temporary ventilation systems beneficial.
  • Electrical Qualification beneficial
  • Good electrical/mechanical knowledge 
  • Good IT skills and communication skills (verbal & written)
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Clear DBS check, essential.
  • Full Driving Licence essential
  • Commitment to learning (i.e. BOHS P600/P601 modules, SSSTS)
