Job Role:

This is an excellent opportunity to join our prestigious client, who is a global leader in their industry sector.  The successful candidate will manage the import, warehousing and supply chain to markets including effective control of freight and haulage and working closely with worldwide partners.

Applications from suitably qualified ex-military Officers (Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, Army, Royal Marines) will be particularly relevant for this position but other qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.


  • Responsible  for Shipping Manager and personnel involved in shipping function at external offices
  • To organise efficient and cost-effective shipment of semi-perishable goods from all parts of the world to customers to UK, EU, USA customers


  • Negotiate freight rates from overseas origins to country of sale.
  • Responsible for maintaining a record of all current freight costs and communicating that information to the Commercial Team for use in setting selling prices.
  • Call off goods from origin in full accordance with the purchase contract terms.
  • Monitor shipment of called-off goods and take action necessary to maintain the estimated shipment programme.
  • Maintain computer data of shipment progress in real-time.
  • Communicate shipment problems with the rest of the Company and, in particular, the Supply Chain Manager.
  • Arrange clearance of all goods in full accordance with Tariffs and any quotas.
  • Arrange inland haulage and work with Customer’s goods-in systems to ensure smooth and timely arrival at Customers.
  • Work closely with Customers to communicate any delivery issues early and devise actions to ensure the Customers’ requirements are fulfilled.
  • Evaluate the most cost-effective route/method of transporting goods from origin to Customer and adopt changes as identified necessary.
  • Manage damages to goods-in-transit and arrange debits on suppliers/shipping lines as necessary.
  • Manage any insurance claims resulting from transit damage.
  • Work in full compliance with all regulations covering the range of goods handled.
  • Coordinate the shipping activities of UK and Overseas Offices by organising regular communications (including virtual meetings)
  • Check incoming invoices against original costings and authorise for payment.
  • Investigate any variances and resolve with the supplier prior to authorisation.
  • Take responsibility for contract warehousing throughout all supply chains.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Senior Shipping & Supply Chain Management Experience and Certification.
  • Management experience
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety Regulations and Documentation
  • Previous Military Service highly desirable.
  • Fluent English language both verbal and written, excellent communicator at all levels.
  • Numerate, with Strong MS Office.
