Works Manager - England

£35,000 - £45,000 + benefits

A leading dredging company is looking for a Works Manager to manage and monitor the implementation of projects that is under general supervision of the Project Manager, such as preparing for mobilisation, installation and demobilisation of sites, equipment and materials, and managing and instructing staff. It is essential that the Works Manager have worked in the marine construction industry for 8+ years. In addition, the Works Manager will need proven experience in Project Management and be willing to travel all over the UK and Ireland.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing and supervising the project (mobilisation, installation and demobilisation), site design, importing and exporting equipment and materials.
  • Assisting the Project Manager or Project Director during the drawing up of the execution plans and possibly the work budget, discussing the execution principles, assessing and planning material use and deployment.
  • Managing, instructing, steering and motivating Superintendents, crew, fleet staff, TD’s and Surveyors at work- Ensuring a connection between quay staff and the ship.
  • Maintaining and encouraging a satisfactory relationship and consulting with client’s supervisors, JV partners and third partners.
  • Planning the required staff, crew and the required equipment at the project.
  • After consultation with colleagues, drawing up estimates of the material requirements, desired delivery times and production times.
  • With colleagues, developing a policy for the required auxiliary equipment and spare parts
  • Pre-selecting materials and subcontractors, holding preparatory discussions with contractors, suppliers of materials, machine rent businesses etc., and drawing up contracts
  • Identifying and reporting deviations with respect to the contract
  • Performing work progress checks and, if necessary, taking measures to deal with any shortcomings. Reporting on progress checks during construction and staff meetings.
  • Being proactive with production-optimisation and cost monitoring
  • Implementing of HSE and Quality Assurance plan

 

Knowledge/Experience/Skills

  • 8-10 years’ experience in the marine construction industry
  • Bachelor or master’s degree level in related field (Oceanography/ surveying/ hydrographic surveying etc.)
  • NVQ Level 4 Construction
  • Gold Level CSCS card
  • Knowledge of and wide experience with techniques and work processes used
  • Knowledge of quality and safety systems
  • Project Management experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of UK and Irish laws and regulations, including obtaining permits
  • Firefighting, survival at sea, VOL-VCA safety diploma for operational managers and First Aid

  • SEATS Environmental Good Practice on Site
  • CITB Site supervisor’s safety training scheme (SSTS)
  • First Aid at Work

 

Salary:

£35,000 to £45,000
