Workshop Controller - GU1 - GU52

£30,000 to £35,000 DOE

A classic car repair company is seeking a Workshop Controller to oversee the daily running of their workshop and manage the engineers on site. The Workshop Controller will have excellent people-facing skills with an automotive background and strong technical knowledge. The Workshop Controller will also have minimum 3 years in a supervisory role working at SME and large companies, have strong leadership and organisational skills.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily running of the workshop, managing 12 technicians
  • Ensure Health and Safety regulations are met, and safe working practices are adhered to
  • Ensure all technicians work is completed to the highest standard
  • Foster a culture of efficiency and quality across all workshop activity
  • Quality checks all documentation to ensure processes are followed and issues rectified
  • Mentor apprentices and work with training partner to deliver apprenticeship programme
  • Liaise with Operations Manager daily to agree priorities and focus
  • Support the Operations Manager in communicating and improving KPIs
  • Manage job cards and ensure technician labour bookings are concise and accurate
  • Ensure deadlines are met and delays are communicated promptly
  • Assist in work estimates and producing standard job times
  • Create and evolve a skills matrix and identify training needs
  • Drive profitability and work with Operations Manager to identify additional sale opportunities

 

Person Specification:

  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills 
  • Ability to take initiative and ownership of issues, with a proactive can-do attitude
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a supervisory role (both larger business and SME)
  • Strong technical knowledge 
  • Automotive experience essential
  • Robust and proven man management skills
  • Proven ability to motivate and develop a team

 

Desirable:

  • Vintage vehicle experience
  • Main dealers experience

 

Salary: £30,000 to £35,000 DOE

Hours: 42.5 hours
