Yard Operations Manager

Circa £35-37.5K – Reading: Permanent

Job Role

The Yard Operations Manager is responsible for compliance and maintenance of assets and has a key role in managing the daily operations and activities including contractual requirements within the overall operation.

Applications from suitably qualified ex-military personnel (Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, Army, Royal Marines) will be particularly relevant for this position but other qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Manage the day to day operational tasks to ensure all requirements are fulfilled, maintaining a high standard of organization.
  • Manage and administer all aspects of document requirements
  • Assist in keeping the forklift trucks maintained as per regulatory requirements.
  • Manage daily defects and weekly audit checks
  • Complete and report weekly stock take.
  • Management of quality control on all stock items
  • Ensure Company safety policies and procedures are maintained to the safest possible working environment for all employees and other users  
  • Keeping accurate compliance records in accordance with relevant audit requirements.
  • Deliver toolbox-talks and coordinate staff H&S and training requirements.
  • Co-ordinate and deliver staff appraisals and performance reviews with HR and department heads.
  • Assist with planning and routing vehicles alongside updating the transport schedule.
  • Assist in facilitating site requests for small tools and plant, coordinating hire and/or distribution from head office
  • Assisting with processing orders when required.
  • Supporting other fleet and general tasks as and when required.
  • Work closely with project managers to ensure that all site plant requirements are achieved

Essential Experience

  • HGV licence (current or working towards Driver CPC)
  • Fork Lift licence
  • Road Haulage Transport Manager CPC
  • Previous operational experience in a relevant service/industry.
  • Computer literate, with working knowledge of MS Office Suite programs (MSWord, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Strong written / verbal communication skills.
  • Previous Health & Safety responsibilities. Able to promote a positive safety culture.
  • Results orientated, with good project management and execution skills.
